Radstock Planning Update
June 2010
- Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) consulted on their core strategy in January 2010, identifying 2 options for the delivery of their strategic objectives which includes 15,500 new homes
- The core strategy options seek to establishing the market towns of Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Radstock as vibrant and distinctive town centres with enhanced employment opportunities
- Option 2 is favourable, with a target of 1700 new homes, it would also require 800 additional homes to be allocated to Midsomer Norton and Radstock flanking our site
- A detailed master plan has been submitted which extends the redevelopment zone to include our site, the extension would enable part of the 800 homes required to be delivered whilst also enabling the Town Park to be established
- Significant pressure has been placed on BANES to choose option 2 as option 1 would require significant greenbelt development around Bath.
Sustainable Land, through JPC Consultants, supported the view that more housing development in Midsomer Norton and Radstock will lead to greater levels of regeneration. This regeneration will be key to ensuring the continuing development of the towns and will play a vital role in bringing services, employment and facilities to existing residents.
